Baby’s first lullaby! John Legend is already looking forward to singing about his baby girl, and she hasn’t even been born yet. The Grammy-winning musician, 37, spoke with Us Weekly's Ashley Spencer at the Us Weekly Video Lounge at ChefDance at the Sundance Film Festival on Sunday, January 24, about his impending bundle of joy.

“We’re really excited to have our first child. This is a new experience for both of us,” he said of himself and supermodel wife Chrissy Teigen.

As for specifically having a baby girl, Legend can’t wait.

“I would have been excited if it was a boy too, but either way I’m excited that we’re going to have someone that is a product of our love,” he told Us. “I’m excited to teach her and love her and do all the things that good parents should do.”

And yes, the singer-songwriter is already hard at work penning a tune for his daughter. He’s previously written several noteworthy anthems, including his 2013 hit “All of Me” about wife Teigen, 30.

“I’ve definitely been trying to write a song for my daughter,” he admitted. “It’s hard. Part of me thinks maybe I just have to see her before I can write it, but I’ve been trying to think about what fatherhood means and what I should say to her.”

The couple announced that they were expecting their first child together in an Instagram post in October 2015. Legend is also the executive producer on the upcoming historical series Underground on WGN.
